Hadith ~ If you seek help, seek it from Allah

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Narrated Ibn Abbas (May Allah be satisfied with him): ‘One day I was riding behind the Messenger (May Allah exalt his mention and protect him from imperfection) and he said: “O boy! If you ask, ask Allah. If you seek help, seek it from Allah. And be informed that had the whole Umma (creation) gathered together to benefit you in anything, they will not benefit you in anything except that which Allah had preordained for you. And if they had gathered together to harm you in anything, they will not harm you in anything except that which Allah has preordained for you. The pen has been raised and the records have been folded.” (At-Termizi)

Commentary ~ Charity And Sickness

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

In 1408, the newspaper al-Muslimun (issue number 181, dated Dhul-Hijjah 8, 1408 (July 21st, 1988)) related the following story: It is a real life story whose hero a Syrian doctor who was afflicted with cancer and who remedied it with charity. Dr. ‘Isa Marzuqi relates that he was afflicted with cancer, a fact that is attested by the most eminent of doctors in Damascus; the amazing thing is that he was cured through charity. After many of his colleagues lost hope of his cure, the said Doctor returned to the hospital to assume his duties. The doctor’s fiancĂ©e had refused to break off their marriage because of the sickness, and instead decided to wait patiently until he died. but instead of that happening he was saved. He later provided authenticated certificates from many eminent doctors that he had cancer in his left armpit; they also attested to the fact that later on, no traces of that cancer remained. In fact, the first doctor who diagnosed him said that at first, he had expected him to die after only a few days. Dr. ‘Isa Marzuqi later said that he applied the words of Allah’s Messenger (May Allah exalt his mention and protect him from imperfection):

“Remedy your sick ones with charity.”

With that statement he still had hope, and so when he found out about a house whose breadwinner had died many years before, he decided to give them all the wealth he had, even though it was only a small amount. He sent the money to the poor family through a friend of his, asking him to tell them that the money was from a man afflicted with a death threatening sickness and that he was seeking a cure by giving charity, hoping from help from Allah. The story ended with his cure, which perplexed many of the most skilled doctors in Syria. He later said that he chose that cure because he wanted to follow the way of Allah’s Messenger (PBUH). He also said however, that he did not leave off treatment through normal medical methods; he believed in the Divine Preordainment, but that belief does not mean that one should turn away from doctors, nor does it mean that one should not take the appropriate tangible steps that are needed to achieve a desired goal.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Listen to Recitation

177. It is not righteousness That ye turn your faces Towards East or West; But it is righteousness- To believe in Allah And the Last Day, And the Angels, And the Book, And the Messengers; To spend of your substance, Out of love for Him, For your kin, For orphans, For the needy, For the wayfarer, For those who ask, And for the ransom of slaves; To be steadfast in prayer, And give Zakat; To fulfil the contracts which ye have made; And to be firm and patient, In pain (or suffering) And adversity, And throughout All periods of panic. Such are the people Of truth, the Allah-fearing.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

‘Ali bin Abi Talib (May Allah be satisfied with him) entered the mosque of Kufah one day, where he saw a man standing at the door of the mosque. He asked that man to hold his mount for him so he could enter. Upon his exit, ‘Ali had two Dirhams in his hand that he had intended to give to the man in return for his services. However, he found that the mule was still there, without its reigns. So he gave the two Dirhams to his servant Qanbar to purchase new reigns for his mule. At the marketplace, Ali’s servant found the exact reigns that the thief had sold for two Dirhams. So Ali said to him, “Indeed, the slave forbids himself from lawful sustenance by abstaining from patience.”

Hadith ~ The strong believer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Narrated Abu-Huraira (May Allah be satisfied with him): Allah’s Messenger (May Allah exalt his mention and protect him from imperfection) said: “The strong believer is better and dearer to Allah than the weak believer, and all of them have goodness. Be keen on what benefits you and seek help in Allah, and do not give up. If anything afflicts you do not say: “If I had done such and such thing, such and such would have happened,” but say: “Allah decrees, and what Allah wills comes to pass.” For, (the utterance) “If I had done such and such,” provides an opening for Satan to creep stealthily.” (Muslim)

Commentary ~ Sustenance

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Among the signs of Faith is that one does not look to please others and incur Allah’s anger in that process. One avoids praising others for the sustenance that they have received from Allah (the Exalted), and also refrains from blaming others for sustenance that he has not received from Allah (the Exalted). Allah’s distribution of provision is not increased for a recipient by the amount of greed or ambition that he shows, nor is it blocked by his hate or envy. Allah in His infinite justice grants provision and contentment for those with strength of Faith and satisfaction with what is divinely ordained. Likewise, misery and discontent are for those that live with doubt and anger. Let us be satisfied with His Will.

Hadith ~ Worldly distress

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Narrated Abu-Huraira (May Allah be satisfied with him): ‘The Messenger of Allah (May Allah exalt his mention and protect him from imperfection) said: “He that relieved his brother from a worldly distress Allah will relieve him from distress in the Hereafter, he that veiled a defect of a Muslim Allah will veil him in life and in the Hereafter, and he that eased (the state of) an insolvent (brother) Allah would ease (his state) in life and in the Hereafter. Allah will support him that supports his brother. He that took a way searching for knowledge Allah will facilitate a way to Paradise for him. There is no group of people who sit in a mosque reciting Allah’s Book and studying it among themselves except that tranquility will descend on them, mercy will overshadow them, and the Angels will encircle them. And he whose deed caused him to lag behind his affinity will not bring him forward.”
